How to promote Houseproud

4.jpg

Without publicity or promotion, qualifying homeowners in your borough won’t get to know about Houseproud or the benefits it can offer them, and the borough’s investment in the scheme will be wasted. It is important, therefore, to promote the scheme effectively – this can take many forms and can include advertising, PR, leaflets, special events, promotional stands in shopping centres, etc. And, of course, details about Houseproud should appear on the council’s website.

Remember that Houseproud is aimed at older homeowners or households with a disabled person living in them, so publicity and promotional activity should be tailored to reach this sector in particular. Don’t forget, though, that relatives and friends may often have an influence on older people’s decisions and this should be born in mind when targeting promotional activity.

Information literature

All participating boroughs receive Houseproud booklets bearing the borough logo, along with counter-top dispensers to contain them, and these should be displayed in as many outlets as possible – council offices, libraries, community centres, doctors surgeries, medical centres, hospitals, etc.

In addition, The Home Improvement Trust has produced a range of publicity and promotional items which can be made available to participating boroughs for their use and which can be easily adapted to carry the borough’s identity and other specific details.

Press advertisements

A range of press advertisements in both colour and black and white are available which are suitable for insertion in, for instance, local press, special interest publications and council publications. They can be adapted to specific sizes if necessary.

Radio advertisements

A series of 40 second radio commercials have been made featuring Richard Briers. These are suitable without adaptation for use by any participating borough or can be adapted to carry the borough’s identity.

Special events/promotional stands

Portable ‘pop-up’ banner displays are available to use as part of special events or promotional stands.

Posters

A4 and A3 full colour posters are available.

Images and graphics

A range of photographic images and logo graphics can be made available for the council to use in its own material.

Further information on these and other marketing and publicity items as well as advice on marketing and publicity is available from the Home Improvement Trust.
